Haleakala Waldorf School

Walk onto the Haleakala Waldorf School campus and it won't take long to realize that you're in a truly unique educational environment. Maybe it's the scent of fresh bread baking in the kindergarten. Perhaps it's the sound of the fourth graders chanting in Hawaiian. Or is it the first graders stomping out a changing series of rhythms. Haleakala Waldorf School believes that education should nurture children to become individuals who are whole in body, intellect, and spirit. We lay a broad foundation in the earliest years that will support a lifetime of learning. Our curriculum is focused on developing not only intellectual abilities but also the artistic, social, and emotional capacities of each child. Waldorf education is an education for the head, hands, and heart.

We welcome you to browse this site to learn more about our school, and we encourage you to contact our Admissions Coordinator with any questions. We invite you as well to plan a visit to our school for a group tour, upcoming open house, or community event.

Through the arts, Waldorf Works. A Haleakala Waldorf School education engages children's imaginations and curiosity through active, hands-on learning. We seek to cultivate creative thinking, inquiry, and a love of learning by integrating a full curriculum (history, math, language arts, the sciences, foreign languages and Hawaiiana) with the arts--visual, dramatic, musical, and movement.

These arts culminate in special events, activities, and celebrations throughout the school year. They ground the children in the rhythms and cycles of the natural world and acknowledge deep-rooted traditions from around the world. There is no other educational movement that gives the arts as central a role as does Waldorf education.

Haleakala Waldorf School is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian independent school founded in 1972. We are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, and the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools. HWS is the first Waldorf School in the nation to achieve a triple accreditation. For the 2007-2008 school year we are offering classes in preschool through the eighth grade.
