“Whatever an education is, it should make you a unique individual, not a conformist: it should furnish you with an original spirit with which to tackle the big challenges; it should allow you to find values which will be your road map through life; it should make you spiritually rich, a person who loves whatever you are doing, wherever you are, whomever you are with; it should teach you what is important, how to live and die.”

- John Taylor Gatto

Haleakala Waldorf School opened ninth and tenth grade classes in August of 2013, and expanded to include an eleventh grade this year. We will have a twelvth grade next year, completing the full offering of birth through high school curriculum. We are the first Waldorf high school on Maui, offering an extension of our highly successful programs that have been part of the Maui educational landscape for forty years.

Haleakala Waldorf High School's rigorous academic curriculum is infused with the arts and founded on the internationally recognized Waldorf approach to learning. Focused on the needs of the individual learner, the Waldorf approach trains thinking, cultivates imagination, and focuses on real-world skills. We engage students in the activity of learning.

We invite you to browse our website to learn more about Waldorf education, to attend a Discovery Tour or Open House, and to contact our staff for more information. We are currently accepting applications.

What is a Waldorf High School?

Waldorf Schools form the fastest growing independent school system in the world with over 1,000 schools internationally. Haleakala Waldorf High School’s curriculum offers rigorous challenges in math, the sciences, literature, and the humanities. Our students are introduced to the greatest and best of cultural achievement; they study the great ideas that shaped civilizations, experience the beauty of the great theorems of mathematics, feel the transformative power of the arts, and explore the wonder of the natural world in science.

Each student is on a unique journey as Haleakala Waldorf High School endeavors to educate the entire human being—mind, body and spirit. Students are encouraged to be well-rounded, to become reflective thinkers, to be able to work in a variety of disciplines, to unlock imagination, and to cultivate creativity. Waldorf education is a rebirth of Renaissance ideals in modern form.
